Hotel California曲風迷幻　曾惹拜撒旦懷疑

1976年，Eagles發表名作Hotel California，由Glenn Frey及Don Henley作曲，中後段的結他獨奏最為人津津樂道。樂隊成員曾向傳媒解釋歌曲內容關於「過分豐裕的美國文化、過往認識的女子」、「藝術與商業之間的失衡」。歌詞營造出迷幻黑暗的氛圍，有人甚至將歌曲與魔鬼撒旦、毒品、巫術等元素扣上關係。多年來，Hotel California的內容一直是樂迷熱議的題目。

樂隊鼓手Don Henley曾接受《六十分鐘時事雜誌》（60 Minutes）的訪問，2007年11月在美國播出。Don Henley談到Hotel California的意思：「我知道，很沉悶。這首歌背後的意思是低下階層追尋美國夢（the American Dream）的黑暗面，以及我們都知道美國過分充裕的事物。」到2013年，他在樂隊的紀錄片中補充，Hotel California是「從一無所知到曾經滄海（from innocence to experience）的旅程」。

事實上，歌曲中可以找到Don Henley談到的元素，演繹美國物質社會的奢華生活：

天花板上的鏡子（Mirrors on the ceiling） 冰鎮粉紅色香檳（The pink champagne on ice） 她說：「我們的東西囚禁了我們」（And she said 'We are all just prisoners here, of our own device'）

縱使樂隊多次否認歌曲與撒旦、精神病院、吸食白粉有關，但不少人看過歌詞就會明白為何Hotel California難免引人遐想：

她站在門邊（There she stood in the doorway） 我聽到教堂鐘聲（I heard the mission bell） 我心裏想（And I was thinking to myself） 「這裏可能是天堂可能是地獄」（'This could be Heaven or this could be Hell'）
晚間當值的人說：「放鬆」（'Relax,'said the night man） 「接待是我們的職責」（We are programmed to receive） 「你可隨時退房」（You can checkout any time you like） 「但永遠不能離開」（but you can never leave）

以上段落令人聯想到「不能離開」的嗜好，例如吸毒成癮，甚至是崇拜魔鬼撒旦的撒旦主義（Satanism），因為崇拜魔鬼的人都會邀請其他人到撒旦教堂，但後者想不再參與崇拜時則會遇阻。

歌曲內其他部分又摻雜諸如「殺死怪獸」（kill the beast）、「用他們冰冷的刀捅它」（stab it with their steely knives）等句子，着實令人感到撲朔迷離。
